Linda Chen is currently the principal of PS 165, a Pre-Kindergarten to fifth grade elementary school in New York City. She leads a diverse school that represents various cultures, languages, and instructional programs, including: bilingual self-contained special education, collaborative team teaching, dual language, and gifted and talented.
She is also the co-author of "Balanced Literacy for English Language Learners, K-2," published by Heinemann in 2006. This teacher-friendly resource emphasizes the importance of providing English language learners access to opportunities in a rigorous, thinking curriculum in literacy.
She previously worked as a teacher in Seattle and Manhattan; staff developer with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project in schools across New York City; literacy consultant to various schools across the nation; and district literacy instructional supervisor in New York City. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Washington, M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, and is currently in the Urban Education Leaders Doctoral Program at Teachers College.
