The Cahn Fellows Program offers public school principals the opportunity to participate in a rich learning experience emphasizing intellectual exchange, reflective practice, and measurable results.
The Program, which employs a cohort-based model of professional development, utilizes a variety of pedagogical approaches designed to encourage critical reflection and perspective transformation. The result is a dynamic active approach to learning that supports individual experienced and aspiring principals as they take their schools to the next level.
Principals selected into the Program participate in a fifteen month Cahn Fellowship while continuing to work full-time as school principals.
Program components include:
- Summer Leadership Institute
Intensive two-week program grounded in experiential learning, linking theory with practice; exposes principals to a diversity of ideas in the field of leadership to encourage critical reflection - Leadership Summits
Weekend retreat in the Hudson Valley to foster strong mentor relationship between Fellows and Allies and set the direction for the challenge project inquiry - Faculty Study Groups
Bimonthly participation in study group of 8-10 principals and aspiring principals lead by Teachers College faculty advisers emphasizing the application of theory to leadership challenges. This year's faculty study groups are focused on: - Adult Development and Teaching Leadership
- Improving Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills
- Creating and Supporting Sustainable Partnerships
- Meeting the needs of Diverse Learners
- Cahn Allies Project
Experienced principals share institutional knowledge with aspiring principals during 10 month period through study groups and summits with Fellows.
