Ramona Duran was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City. Duran has become an educational"warrior" and has been entrenched in the New York City Public School System as a student and a professional. Ramona learned how to navigate her career from being a School Aide, a paraprofessional,a teacher, assistant principal to the accomplished and well versed Principal of P.S. 157, in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. During her reign from 1999 to the present, the school's percentile scores have more than tripled resulting in "A" and "B" ratings beginning with the first Progress Report. Duran, affectionately called "Nike" (Just Do It) by her staff, has strong academic affiliations with Lehman College, the New York Institute of Technology, the Bank Street College of Education and has received professional development at Harvard University. She is an accomplished opera singer(soprano) and a lover of the arts. As such, she has infused her passion for cultural exposure into her school. In addition to academic rigor, students are exposed to the dramatic arts, orchestra, chorus,keyboard, dance and oratory.
