(NCCF) advances the policy, education, and development of children and their families. Housed at Teachers College, Columbia University, the Center produces and applies interdisciplinary research to improve practice and to raise public awareness of social issues that affect the well-being of children and families in the United States and around the world.

This study, entitled “Young Children’s Early Experiences: Examining Differences on Long Island,” describes the availability of services for young children and families in eight school districts on Long Island. Special attention is paid to the question of whether different subpopulations, within and across communities, have differential access to services. The second goal was to assess the quality of child care and early childhood education.
