Ganja found in bun shipment

Jamaica Gleaner

FIRST, THERE was bun and cheese. Now the Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) has unearthed a new combination: bun and ganja.

Yesterday, the CET (comprised of police and customs officials) seized a shipment of buns contaminated with compressed ganja which was heading for Miami.

Up to press time, narcotics police were still examining the shipment and were unable to disclose the quantity of drugs which was found in the Air Jamaica cargo section at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Method

Drug enforcement officials said information on the shipping document stated that the cargo was going to South Carolina, but 26 boxes were labelled for Miami.

The buns were cut and the compressed ganja placed in the middle.

"The investigation is very delicate at this time," said Senior Superintendent Beresford Spence, head of the Narcotics Division, but several persons were being interrogated in connection with the find.

The discovery was made less than a week after the lawmen intercepted a pickup van in Manchester transporting more than 1,000 pounds of ganja.
