After completing
hearings in six parishes the Ganja Commission appointed by Prime Minister
P.J.Patterson last year, is now preparing to embark on the second phase
of its work.
Head of the Commission,
Professor Barry Chevannes told RJR News that he's pleased with the progress
of the Commission's work adding that various submissions have been received
from a wide-cross section of the society on whether ganja should be
decriminalised.
Hearings have been
held in Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Hanover,
Westmoreland and St. James.
The Commission
was appointed to review the use of ganja with specific focus on whether
the substance could be decriminalised for use in defined circumstances
and specific conditions.
