An 8 magnitude earthquake struck the central Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008, causing significant civilian casualties, structural damage, and disrupting power lines and other vital services. At least 41,353 people have died so far in Sichuan, Shan Xi, Gan Su, and Yun Nan. The Sichuan earthquake may eventually claim as many as 50,000 lives.

No matter where we are from, no matter what ethnicity we are, no matter what language we speak, we were all saddened by the catastrophe. This is because we are not different from those people who lost their parents, lovers, siblings, kids, friends and colleagues in the earthquake. Let's do something for the victims of 5.12 Earthquake. Let's bring our love and regards to them. Let's give them a hand.

To assist China's disaster relief efforts in areas affected by the earthquake, various organizations in U.S.A. have organized many donation events. By far, U.S. government, organizations, and people have made donation worth of more than 23 million U.S. dollars with loads of food, water containers, blankets, lanterns, and etc.

We organize this event to appreciate the contribution by the people who feel concerned about the earthquake victims in China. Also we wish more people will give a hand to the victims through this activity.

Everyone is welcomed to attend this event. Please send a reservation to 5.12donation@gmail.com or register on www.columbia.edu/cu/cuasia, providing your name and email address. Thanks!
