The goal of the Center is to conduct highquality, policyrelevant, and interdisciplinary research on the development of children and families, to train young scholars and policy analysts, to provide information to those working directly with children and families, and to take a leadership role in national and state policy as it relates to children and families. The importance of the Center's work is particularly relevant given that the needs of families with young children (and, indeed, all children) are a major social and educational issue in the 21st century. Located at Teachers College, Columbia University, the Center brings together scholars from developmental psychology, educational psychology, health and nutrition education, early childhood education, family studies, and special education. The Center also has affiliates in other Columbia University schools and departments; social work, psychology, anthropology, sociology, public health, pediatrics, child psychiatry, and economics.
