Director Dr. Dawn Arno |
About the Director Dr. Dawn Forde Arno-Garris |
|
Dawn Forde Arno is the founding Director of the Teachers College University School Community Partnership, TC EdZone, which was created in 2004 to provide a comprehensive and institutional response to support the improvement of neighboring public schools in Harlem, N.Y. The TC EdZone partnership includes TC Reading & Math Buddies who are graduate students who work with struggling students in public schools. The TC Buddies serve as catalysts for creating paradigmatic change in the schools in which they work. The graduate students who serve as TC Buddies come from all departments at Teachers College and spend two hours per day in schools working one-on-one with students. The TC Buddies are key to the creation of new knowledge about teaching and learning in their respective schools. This new knowledge contributes to leadership development & organizational learning, necessary factors for improvement of low performing organizations & public schools. Dr. Arno has a doctorate in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, and the M.B.A from the Columbia University School of Business. She has been a consultant to schools, school districts and community organizations, in the US, England and the Caribbean. Dr. Arno is an expert in pubic school finance, management of organizations, organizational development and organizational learning. Dr. Arno provides the unique combination of connoisseurial expertise needed to successfully navigate and implement changes in complex organizational systems. She has served as consultant on re-engineering school business operations, and has served as Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Business in large and small, urban, suburban and rural school districts. She currently pursues her academic interests in transforming low performing public schools through organizational learning. Contact: arno@tc.edu
