Tech Student Teachers
In 2004, the Program in Computing in Education at Teachers College begun a pre-service program for the new New York State license in Educational Technology Specialist K-12. Graduates of this program will work as computer teachers and technology coordinators in schools in districts. During the program, candidates learn to integrate technology into school curriculum, to use technology to foster student inquiry, problem solving, and collaboration, to manage technical and administrative aspects of school technology, and to use technology as a tool to foster educational equity and social justice. For the Spring 2006 term, the program will begin placing its candidates as student teachers in the TC EdZone schools, in New York City's Region 10. They will work with the Region's technology coaches to help teachers integrate technology and with school technology teachers as they instruct students.
Howard Budin directs this pre-service program. He is the Director of the Center for Technology & School Change at Teachers College, which works with schools in the tri-state region to help them learn about, use, and evaluate the impact of, technology in their schools. He has taught in the Computing in Education program at Teachers College for 25 years, before which he taught in New York City schools for 10 years, and he has worked extensively with schools as they introduce new technologies into their curricula.
