An effective treatment to improve speech in individuals with Parkinson disease and minimize mild swallowing difficulties.
Communication disorders are a significant problem for individuals with Parkinson Disease (PD) including reduced loudness, monotone and slurring. Many individuals with PD report that they "talk less, participate in fewer activities and go out of the house less often" because it is frustrating to communicate and they lose confidence.
For the first time, there is a speech treatment that can help individuals with Parkinson Disease improve their speech and voice and thus more effectively deal with the challenges of PD. The treatment is called LSVT (named for an individual with PD: Mrs. Lee Silverman).
The LSVT has helped hundreds of individuals with PD improve speech and voice.
Clinicians at the Edward D. Mysak Clinic for Communication Disorders are trained in the LSVT techniques. Evaluations and Therapy can be conducted at our center.
