The Center for Opportunities and Outcomes for People with Disabilities continues to sponsor on an annual basis a 1 or 2 day conference on critical issues in special education.  The Center also sponsors an online course (HBSE 4880) which culminates in the workshop-conference activities.  The HBSE 4880 course is open to ALL students and is available for 1-2 credits each Spring.

Recent Conferences sponsored by the O&O Center have featured national/international speakers along with key researchers from the greater NYC area with a changing Theme each year depending upon critical issues in the field.

Conference featured: Helen Tager-Flusberg, BU; R. Douglas Greer, TC (Blackman Lecturer); Peter Bearman, Columbia U and a host of additional panelists on Day 1.  Day 2 featured speakers from Columbia  University’s Medical Center and Autism Research Program including: Gerald D. Fischbach, MD,  Kwame Anyane-Yeboa, MD , Rica Vizzarra-Villongco, MD, and Agnes Whitaker, MD and a host of additional panelists.

2007  Mind and Body in Autism – Conference   April 27-28, 2007

Conference featured: Marian Sigman, Ph.D., UCLA (Blackman Lecturer);Robert F. Putnam, PhD, May Institute; Margaret Bauman, MD, Harvard University along with featured speakers from Columbia Medical Center and Autism Research Program including: Bradley S. Peterson, MD,  Reet Sidhu, M.D. & Marc C. Patterson, M.D., Joseph Levy, M.D., NYU & Anne R. Lee, M.S.Ed.,R.D., Jay E. Selman, M.D., CUMC; Johanna Lantz, Ph.D. & Agnes Whitaker, M.D and other panelists.
