Options for Obtaining the ESCAPE-DD Curriculum

Request the ESCAPE-DD Curriculum

The original version of the ESCAPE curriculum, the Effective Strategy-Based Curriculum for Abuse Prevention and Empowerment, was developed and evaluated, with the support of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, by Khemka, Hickson, and Reynolds (2005) for women with intellectual disabilities. Support from the New York Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) made it possible to expand the original curriculum into the current ESCAPE-DD version, which includes situations and activities that are appropriate for males as well as females with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Further support from the DDPC has allowed us, in collaboration with Harriet Golden and Aikaterini Chatzistyli of AHRC New York City, to develop and disseminate an ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package, that includes a staff training DVD and a CD version of the ESCAPE-DD curriculum. The ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package is available as follows:

1. Request a Free Copy of the ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package

A single copy of the ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package (includes Staff Training DVD and CD version of ESCAPE-DD Curriculum, which consists of the Instructors Manual, Vignette Booklet, Booklet of Activity Sheet Masters, and assembly instructions) may be requested by contacting Linda Hickson at lh76@columbia.edu . To inquire about obtaining multiple copies of the ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package, contact Nicholas Rose at the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (nrose@ddpc.state.ny.us ).

 2. Enroll in a Train-the-Trainer Workshop

One-Day Train-the-Trainer Workshops at Teachers College, may be scheduled upon request for those who would like additional training in the implementation of the ESCAPE-DD curriculum. Workshop participants will receive a hard copy of the ESCAPE-DD curriculum and a copy of the electronic ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package. For further information, please contact Linda Hickson at lh76@columbia.edu .

The standard workshop fee is $495. It may be possible to arrange for a group discount for three or more individuals from the same agency.

 3. Arrange for an ESCAPE-DD Train-the-Trainer Workshop at your Facility

It may be possible to arrange for experienced ESCAPE-DD trainers to come to your facility to conduct a one-day Train-the-Trainer Workshop for groups of up to 12 individuals.

The standard workshop fee is: $1,500 + Travel Expenses from NYC for 2-3 Trainers (includes one hard copy of the ESCAPE-DD curriculum and a copy of the electronic ESCAPE-DD Staff Training and Curriculum Package). Additional hard copies may be purchased for each workshop participant at $98 each.
