Student Assessment Requirements

This course will be presented for 1 credit point with a Pass/Fail option. To achieve a Pass both the attendance component and the written component must be successfully completed.

Attendance, Preparation and Participation (50%)

Students will participate in this course in a variety of ways from engaging directly in panels, for a, and response sessions, to the development of strategies for art and education across cultures.

Written work (50%)

Students are required to complete an essay of 1,500 words and may choose one of the following options:

• Identify a key point or issue raised by one or more of the conference speakers and use that as a premise around which to critique current issues in cross-cultural research and educational inquiry. Pay particular attention to the way that artistic inquiry and insight contributes, to or challenges, cultural perceptions.
• Choose two of the artworks exhibited in the Macy Gallery and using these works as a source of artistic and cultural content write a critical response to issues raised in the conference sessions that can be referenced to a wider set of cultural issues and practices.
• Using the course website as a source of information investigate how artistic practices might be seen as an impetus for cultural conversation and critique. Broaden your inquiry by including other relevant artists, cultural theorists, and educators as you construct your position paper.
