CCNMTL CONFERENCE - October 17, 2008

Join New Media in Education conference Friday, October 17th, 2008 8:00AM - 5:00PM in Low Memorial Library, Columbia University , a free, all-day event for faculty, instructors, and the Columbia community to explore innovative educational approaches used in Columbia classrooms. Watch presentations by Columbia faculty and leaders in the field of education and technology to discover how digital teaching tools are connecting students in a global community.

Featured sessions will cover simulations, case studies, digital mapping, e-portfolios, wikis, and podcasting. Nicholas Lemann, Dean and Henry R. Luce Professor at the Columbia University Journalism School, will give the keynote address.

Breakfast, lunch, and a reception will be held for all registered attendees

NEED SOFTWARE?

If you need special software for CLASS SESSIONS or if you are planning to check out our WIRELESS LAPTOPS for a class, please let us know what software you will need installed ASAP at labs@tc.columbia.edu. For information about the classrooms, including a list of installed software, please check the “Classrooms & Labs” section of the TC Computing website (http://www.tc.edu/computing).

If you need software for your office, you can borrow it from ACS, provided that it will be installed onto a TC PURCHASED COMPUTER. You need to come to 234 HM in person. If you are unable to come, please email Stacy at thomas@tc.edu or call x3484 or the front desk at x8185 and let us know who will pick up the software on your behalf. Once borrowed, the software MUST be returned within 48 hours.

 

MEDIA ORIENTATION DAY

If you need help with multimedia equipment that is available in the TC classroom come to our Media Orientation day

The orientation will cover

  • how to make online/phone/in person reservations,
  • how to work with the equipment
  • policies and procedures
    The Media Services staff would like to welcome you back to the new semester. We are here to help make your teaching experience a success and are happy to provide one-on-one training for faculty, teaching assistants and students in the use of the AV equipment.

It is best not to wait until right before the first class for this training if you have not used the equipment before. To create a one-time request for equipment, a semester standing order or to receive technical assistance in the set-up of a smart classroom please use our convenient Media Manager Request Form.

As part of our services we offer demonstration sessions on a variety of technology programs to your students. For example we can demonstrate ClassWeb, Endnote or Inspiration during course hours or in a special session upon request.

NEXT GENERATION CLASSWEB - SAKAI

We are currently piloting SAKAI, an open source Course management platform that is a possible replacement for ClassWeb. Sakai includes a set of tools designed to help instructors, researchers, and students create websites for collaboration. If you wish to participate in this pilot please contact George (schuessler@tc.edu)

 

iTunes U - TC Educator - Adobe Connect
