The Mingyuan Education Project

With financial support from the Gu Mingyuan Educational Research and Development Foundation (the Mingyuan Foundation), the Center on Chinese Education has launched the Mingyuan Education Project. The project is aimed at promoting education exchange between China and the United States, supporting research on Chinese education, and extending the outreach of the Mingyuan Foundation.

With financial support from the Gu Mingyuan Educational Research and Development Foundation (the Mingyuan Foundation), the Center on Chinese Education has launched the Mingyuan Education Project.  The project is aimed at promoting education exchange between China and the United States, supporting research on Chinese education, and extending the outreach of the Mingyuan Foundation.  The project supports the activities of the Center on Chinese Education, Teachers College Columbia University, during the period July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2019.  These activities include research, education and training, education exchange, and seminars. Funding for the project will be mainly used to provide financial support to student assistants associated with the Center on Chinese Education who participate in and contribute to these activities.  These student assistants will be designated as the “Mingyuan Research Assistants”.  In AY2014-2015, the Mingyuan Research Assistants include Xin Gong, Jing Li, Na Feng, Huanhuan Xia, and Yipeng Tang.

The Mingyuan Foundation was founded in 1997 in the name of Mr. Mingyuan Gu, a well-known educator in China and professor of comparative education in Beijing Normal University. He is one of the founding fathers of comparative education in China. Professor Gu is a former President of the World Council of Comparative Education Society as well as a former President of the Chinese Society of Education. Currently he is a member of the National Advisory Committee on Education, the leader of the team on Advancing Quality Education Reform, the Vice Director of the Advisory Committee of Research Center on Education Development, and the Director of the Teacher Education Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Education, China. Professor Gu has published more than 600 research articles and over 40 books. Not only has he been well-established in educational theories, but he is also very influential on educational practice. He has participated in the major educational reforms in China for over sixty years.
