TCSOL 2015 Beijing Summer Program

The TCSOL 2015 Beijing Summer Program is a collaborative certificate program co-organized by Columbia University's Teachers CollegeDepartment of East Asian Languages and Cultures, and Asia for Educators, co-sponsored by Columbia Global Centers | East Asia in Beijing and The Division of Chinese International Education at Beijing Language and Culture University. The TCSOL Summer Program provides state-of-the-art training in Chinese Pedagogy and Educational Linguistics, aiming to help pre-/in-service teachers build a comprehensive and systematic knowledge base of second language acquisition theory and Chinese linguistics, and to develop and hone their skills in teaching Chinese across different contexts. The summer program also provides a unique opportunity for individuals to interact with two Columbia University professors, Dr. ZhaoHong Han and Dr. Lening Liu, without having to travel to the United States.

The TCSOL 2015 Summer Program especially encourages applicants who are 

  • MA students/graduates in Chinese linguistics, English, Bilingual or Multilingual Education
  • College seniors in Chinese linguistics, English, Bilingual or Multilingual Education
  • Teachers of Chinese or English looking to enhance their teaching expertise
  • Professionals considering a career change
  • Individuals seeking to acquire a new skill

Students who successfully complete the TCSOL 2015 Summer Program will receive a certificate jointly issued by Teachers College, Columbia University and Beijing Language and Culture University to acknowledge their participation and achievement in the program. Attending the TCSOL Summer Program will also give a significant advantage for applicants who decide to continue on to the TCSOL Program at Teachers College, Columbia University. With the foundation that the summer program provides, students will be better equipped for the rigorous program at Teachers College. Application priority will be given to students who demonstrate their ability during the summer program. Additionally, applicants who successful complete the summer program will have a $1,200 reduction of the tuition fee for the full year course should they be admitted to the TCSOL Program at Teachers College, Columbia University.
