Payment Deadlines
The last date to pay all tuition-related charges for Fall 2009 is Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Payments MUST be received by this date, whether you receive a statement (schedule/bill) or not. If you are a new registrant or make changes to an existing registration resulting in increased costs (after the payment deadline(s)), you are required to make full payment of the difference when the changes are made.
If you are a new student and planning to reside in Teachers College housing, you are required to pay your rent in full for Fall 2009 by Tuesday, September 8, 2009.
Payment Options
Various forms of payment are accepted for tuition and fees and may be used individually or in combination. Teachers College accepts checks, money orders, most major credit cards, and cash. A deferred payment plan (only available in the Fall and Spring terms), tuition exemption, third-party billing agreements, and financial aid are also available to finance a Teachers College education (some restrictions apply).
Online Deferred Payment Plan - A deferred payment plan is available if you cannot make full payment of tuition charges by the due date. There is a $50 fee to participate. The deadline to enroll is Tuesday, September 8, 2009. If you choose to participate in the deferred payment plan, you MUST logon to the CASHNet site via the MyTC Portal and sign an electronic agreement with the Office of Student Accounts. This plan allows you to pay your account in three installments. For the Fall 2009, you pay 1/3 of your balance at the time you enroll. The second (1/3) is due October 8, 2009 and the final (1/3) is due November 8, 2009. If you make changes resulting in increased costs (after you enroll in the plan) you are required to make full payment of the difference when the change is made. Please contact our office if there is a change in your tuition and related cost.
Personal Checks, Cashier Checks, Traveler’s Checks or Money Orders - Must be made payable to Teachers College. These types of payments can either be submitted in person, placed in the drop box, or mailed to the Office of Student Accounts: 525 West 120th Street, Box 305, New York, NY 10027. The drop off payment box is located at the door of the Office of Student Accounts, Thompson Hall Room # 133. Do not place cash in this box. Please write your student identification number and a valid daytime telephone number on the face of the check or money order. Online fee-free ACH (checking or savings account) payments are also accepted. Online payments can be made by accessing the Student Information System at: https://my.tc.edu. Returned checks are assessed a return-check fee and subject to collection fees, if necessary.
Credit Card Payments - Teachers College utilizes a third party processor, CASHNet® SmartPay, to accept credit card payments. A 2.75% convenience charge is assessed on all credit card payments by processor. CASHNet® SmartPay accepts American Express, MasterCard and Discover credit cards. Students can make credit card payments through the Student Information System which is available on the Web at: https://my.tc.edu. Telephone credit card payments are also accepted by CASHNet® SmartPay at: 1-866- 504-9286. As of August 2008, the College (Office of Student Accounts) does not accept credit cards directly. These payments must be made through our processor.
Tuition Exemption - Tuition Exemption forms are accepted as payment for tuition only. Fees are not covered by tuition exemption. Payment of fees are due on the Tuesday, September 8, 2009. To avoid late payment penalties, tuition exemption forms MUST be received by Tuesday, September 15, 2009 for Fall 2009.
Third Party - Students enrolling under a third party agreement must submit an authorization form to the Office of Student Accounts for approval each term/semester. The authorization form must include the student’s name, relevant semester and the total amount of tuition and fee charges that the third party is willing to pay.
Financial Aid - If all required applications and documentation have been filed with the Financial Aid Office by the required deadline then financial aid awards should be available at the time of in-person registration. Late application filing and anticipated student aid does not constitute a deferment. Since tuition and all fees are due at the time of in-person registration, late payment penalties will be assessed on any outstanding balance. For more information about financial aid, please visit the Office of Financial Aid web site at: http://www.tc.columbia.edu/financialaid/ or call at (212) 678-3714.
Federal Perkins Loan - The college has contracted with Campus Partners to administer the Entrance and Exit interview for the Perkins Loan. Please visit their website for instructions on completing the mandatory entrance or exit interview at :
https://ipromise.campuspartners.com/.
Late Registration
If you register or make changes resulting in increased costs after Tuesday, September 8, 2009 for Fall 2009, your tuition and fees MUST be paid in full at the time you register.
Payment Penalties
Failure to clear all account balances can result in late payment penalties. An initial Late Payment Fee of $50 will be charged on any outstanding balance during the first billing period. A 1 1/3 percent monthly (16 percent annually) Late Payment Penalty will be assessed on any outstanding balance thereafter. In addition, failure to make timely payment of housing charges violates the dormitory agreement and may result in eviction. Furthermore, unpaid accounts can be referred to a collection agency.
Student Refunds
Proceeds originating from financial aid in excess of your account charges will be mailed to your local address beginning on Monday, September 14, 2009 for Fall 2009. Please verify your address with the Office of the Registrar to avoid mailing delays.
