Columbia University Commencement Details

Columbia University degrees are granted en masse to graduating students from Columbia's eighteen schools, colleges, and affiliated institutions.  The Commencement Address is delivered by the President of the University, and medals, awards, and honors are bestowed.  No candidate officially graduates until the ceremony is completed.

Admission to Campus

Graduating students participating in the procession must show a TC I.D. to enter the campus on University Commencement morning. For detailed information, visit the Columbia Commencement Website.

*Note: Columbia University All University Commencement is a separate event from Teachers College Convocation.  You must register for both ceremonies if you want to attend both events.

Graduate Checklist

  1. Determine if you are eligible to graduate.
  2. File an application to graduate with the Registrar (Masters Students Only).
  3. Register for your ceremony.
  4. Purchase or rent Academic Attire.
  5. Contact OASID if you or a guest have needs associated with a disability.
