The individuation journey asks each of us to open to the unknown and discover our inner “other”.

Course Description:
The individuation journey asks each of us to open to the unknown and discover our inner “other”. This course explores the transformative power of symbols and archetypes in the exploration of the self through use of journaling and art-making using an expressive-arts approach. This course places the imagination and our creative engagement with the mythopoetic structure of the psyche at the heart of learning, change, and well-being. Symbols are everywhere around us and inside of us: in our dreams or the media. Yet we rarely take the time to encounter these portals of self-understanding; nor might we know how to extract the meaning offered. Experiential and theoretical material will be provided as we both create (collage, drawing, video), receive, and dialogue with the language of symbols. Through journaling and fieldwork visits, students will learn to engage in both the personal and transpersonal—their individuality and the universals that transcends cultural/theological boundaries.
