Course Description:
Through class discussion, we will study experiential exercises, readings, and the connection between spirituality and psychotherapy. We will explore spiritual principles and how they relate to the theory and techniques of psychotherapy. Through personal reflection and exercises, we will examine what it means to be a spiritually oriented psychotherapist. Topics will range from understanding our own spiritual paths to the spiritual journeys of our clients. We will learn to address emotional pains of clients from a spiritual perspective, as well as clinical issues such as Depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. Treatment techniques such as mindfulness, hypnosis, and dynamic psychotherapy will be discussed through the underlying spiritual mechanisms that bring healing to the client. Actual case studies will be presented as well as simulations of clinical issues through role-playing.
