Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)The TESOL intensive summer program leads to the completion of a Teachers College Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. The TESOL Certificate Program is a 9-week non-degree program that offers participants from all over the world a unique blend of theory and practice and a hands-on, integrated skills approach to teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), and/or English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
Participants study the fundamentals of how English works, the most up-to-date theories on how languages are learned, and how to assess students. They also explore teaching methodologies and take part in an integrated curriculum of courses and workshops. Topics include creating a learner-centered classroom, language and culture, and course and materials development. One of the highlights of the program is that participants plan for and teach their own classes in TC’s Community Language Program.
TESOL also offers one-day workshops and classes focused on building professional competencies in the field.
