About CTSC: An Incremental Approach to Learning

Teachers move through different stages of openness, awareness, and understanding as they become familiar with the many types of technology that can transform learning. CTSC staff members support teachers as they move through various stages of their technology learning. Facilitators use hands-on activities that are situated in teachers' daily classroom work with students. They demonstrate how the infusion of technology into instructional approaches increases teachers' ability to provide meaningful student learning experiences that improve engagement and performance.

Stage 1

Awareness

I am aware that technology exists, but have not used it; perhaps I'm even avoiding it.

Stage 2

Learning the Process

I am currently trying to learn the basics. I am sometimes frustrated using computers. I lack confidence when using computers.

Stage 3

Understanding the Application

I am beginning to understand the process of using technology and can think of specific tasks where it might be useful.

Stage 4

Familiarity and Confidence

I am gaining a sense of competence and I find that I can make the computer perform specific tasks.

Stage 5

Adoption to Other Contexts

I no longer worry about how to use technology itself. I am beginning to focus more on how to apply technology to the learning process.

Stage 6

Creative Application to New Contexts

I am able to use technology without even having to think about it. I am able to integrate it seamlessly into my instructional approaches.
