INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY/AUTISM
Position: The Program in Intellectual Disability/ Autism in the Department of Health and Behavior Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University invites applications for a tenure-track Associate/Full Professor position.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will conduct a very active program of research and scholarship relevant to the effective education of students with intellectual disabilities and autism; successfully pursue external funding opportunities for research grants; contribute substantively in coordinating interdisciplinary initiatives in intellectual
disabilities and autism; advise both masters and doctoral students in the Programs in Applied Sciences of Learning and Special Education cluster with a special interest in intellectual disabilities and autism; teach courses in the masters and doctoral special education cores and specialized courses in the program in intellectual disability/autism; provide dissertation advisement to Ph.D. and Ed.D. candidates; share responsibility for meeting national and state program accreditation requirements; and contribute to the intellectual life of the Department and the College.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or Psychology or a related field with an emphasis on the education of students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders and conversant with multiple theoretical perspectives; a strong background in research methods; evidence of successful university teaching, doctoral dissertation sponsorship, and externally funded research; teaching experience with children with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders, preferably in an urban, multicultural school environment.
