ELEMENTARY INCLUSIVE EDUCATION, Preservice
Position: Seeking a teacher educator with a focus on equity pedagogy for our highly collaborative intensive field-based program. Our MA program prepares elementary school teachers for a variety of contexts, particularly public schools in urban, culturally diverse, inclusive settings. The program emphasizes critical autobiographical analysis, social justice, critical multicultural curriculum development, teacher inquiry, and critical special education. Faculty members work collaboratively with school-based practitioners and doctoral students to integrate field and university experiences and co-plan curriculum and instruction.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate, with focus on curriculum or teacher education. Established record of research and scholarship. At least 5 years of experience teaching in elementary (K-6) public schools (either special education, ESL, bilingual, dual language, or general education classrooms). Demonstrated excellence in teaching, especially at the university level. Strong history of successful collaboration with classroom-based educators and university colleagues.
Responsibilities: Teach graduate courses from among: elementary school methods and issues, social studies methods, curriculum design and inquiry, curriculum theory, urban education, inclusive education, critical special education, disability studies, curriculum theory, and teacher education research. Work in New York City public schools with school practitioners; collaborate with colleagues on program and departmental projects such as creating dual certification programs; supervise student teachers; advise masters and doctoral students; mentor doctoral level teacher educators; conduct field-based research and lead research teams; supervise program staff; participate in departmental and College-wide committees; and, engage actively in research.
