Restorative Justice and De-Escalating Challenging Behaviors Mini-Institute (6-12) Group B

Restorative justice is a philosophy that emphasizes developing trusting, communicative relationships among students, teachers, and administration over "zero tolerance" disciplinary policies. The three tenets of restorative justice include: 1) accountability, 2) community safety, and 3) competency development. Youth are encouraged to identify authentic reparations for their wrongdoing, while simultaneously developing empathy and healthy, caring relationships with their peers and adult educators through dialogue facilitated by trusted leaders. This workshop will provide an introduction to restorative justice approaches as well as basic classroom management strategies and practice for de-escalating 'in the moment' challenging behavior. Please Note: This is a two-day Mini-Institute taking place from 9AM to 2:30PM on 1/12 and 2/4.
