Mothers Educating their Children Intervention Selected as BWG Network’s First Gem of the Month

Dr. Carol Scheffner Hammer and lab alum Dr. Brook Sawyer’s Intervention, "Effects of a Culturally Responsive Interactive Book-Reading Intervention on the Language Abilities of Preschool Dual Language Learners: A Pilot Study” (also known as the Mothers Educating their Children Intervention) was selected as the Bridging the Word Gap’s first gem of the month. The intervention examined the effects of a book-reading intervention on the language abilities of Latino dual Language learners (DLLs). Eight culturally informed books, developed for the project, were used to support Latina mothers’ usage of high quality language strategies.
