Ed.D. and Ed.D. CTAS Candidates

Ed.D. First Deposit Gateway

Now that you have successfully defended your Dissertation, your last remaining academic requirement is to complete your Dissertation deposits.
 
The Doctor of Education degree has a total of two deposits:  The First Deposit and the Final Deposit
 
The First Deposit
 
Your Dissertation Oral Defense Committee may have directed you to make minor revisions (Line 1) or major revisions (Line 2) to your Dissertation.  Once you have made these revisions, you are ready to being the First Deposit process.  Please be sure to review all the information on this page carefully.
 
There are three steps to completing the First Deposit:
 
1) Obtain the original signed copy of your Dissertation Manuscript Approval Form.  You will have received this form from ODS as an enclosure prior to your defense via E-mail.
 
If you received a Line 1 decision (Minor Revisions), this form is only signed by your sponsor.
 
If you received a Line 2 decision (Major Revisions), this form is signed by your Dissertation Manuscript Revision Committee
 
2) One copy of your Dissertation manuscript formatted as per the Teachers College Manual of Style e-mailed in pdf form to ods@tc.columbia.edu.

PLEASE NOTE: Your Abstract is no longer required to be initialed by your sponsor.
 
PLEASE NOTE: The Dissertation manuscript must meet minimum standards as set in Appendix A of the Teachers College Manual of Style.  If it does not meet these minimum standards, the manuscript will be returned to the candidate unaccepted. Applicable deadlines will still be in effect if the manuscript is returned to the candidate.
 
Upon submission and approval of the first deposit, a candidate's Dissertation manuscript is reviewed by both the Manager of the Office of Doctoral Studies and an outside reviewer.  Depending on the number of Dissertation manuscripts that the reviewer has at the moment, this review could take several weeks or longer.
 
Upon receipt of the outside reviewer's corrections, the candidate will be sent an E-mail directing them to proceed to the Ed.D. Final Deposit Gateway.
 
Final Deposit

 
When the candidate has made the corrections of both the Office of Doctoral Studies and the outside reviewer, the candidate is ready to make the Final Deposit.

Ed.D. Final Deposit Gateway

Please click HERE to download the Electronic Submission of the Ed.D. Dissertation  Brochure. This brochure will provide detailed information on how to  complete the electronic submission of your Dissertation.
 
 
There are four steps to completing your Final Deposit (see below for a more detail explanation:

1.  Complete the Ed.D. Degree Application Form;
 
2.  Pay the $95 processing fee;

3.  Submit the required Survey of Earned Doctorates online;

4.  Upload and submit a PDF copy of your dissertation.

There are specific formatting requirements for your dissertation.  Please CLICK HERE to read the Teachers College Manual of Style.

The deadline for depositing your Dissertation is as follows:

October and February degree: The Final Deposit must be made and approved by the deadline date noted in the Academic Calendar.

May  degree:  The First Deposit must be made and approved by the deadline  date noted in the Academic Calendar.  The Final Deposit must be made by  the deadline given by the Office of Doctoral Studies once the reviewed  manuscript is returned from the Office of Doctoral Studies.  This is normally no  more than one week's time.

1.  Complete the Ed.D. Degree Application Form.

This form needs to be filled out and submitted to the Manager  of ODS for processing.  This form can be brought in, mailed, faxed, or  scanned and E-mailed.

Please ensure that your Diploma Mailing Address is up to date by following these instructions.

 

2. Pay the $95 processing fee.
   
Click here for the form to personally make payment of the $95 processing fee.  You can make payment at the Student Accounts window using either a Bank Check, Money Order, or Cash. If payment is made using this method, the form must be stamped by the Office of Student Accounts and brought to the Office of Doctoral Studies.
 

   

Click here to make payment of the $95 processing fee directly to Teachers College via credit card or bank transfer. A message will be sent directly to the Office of Doctoral Studies upon completion.
 

 

3.  Submit the required Survey of Earned Doctorates online.

The  Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) is an ongoing survey sponsored by the  National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities,  the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Aeronautics and  Space Administration. Teachers College requires completion of this  survey as part of the Dissertation Final Deposit.

Please note the following points before accessing the SED website - failure to follow these steps may delay processing of your deposit.

 

When registering for the SED site:

  • Please use your Teachers College e-mail address! This allows us to keep track of who has completed the survey.   
  • For institution, enter: Teachers College, Columbia University

At the end of the survey:

       
  • When  asked for e-mail addresses for notification of completion, enter your  Teachers College e-mail address as the "Primary" address. Enter rmg2110@tc.columbia.edu as the "Secondary" address.  This is very important - if you don't do  this, we will not know you have completed the survey, and approval of  your deposit may be delayed.

4. Upload and submit a PDF copy of your Dissertation
 

The digital copy of your Dissertation is uploaded to ProQuest/UMI, as well as to Pocket Knowledge (Teachers College online research repository).

Your Dissertation must be uploaded in PDF format, in one single file. If you have not already created a PDF, or if you are unable to do so, there is a PDF Conversion Tool available as part of the upload process.  You will also need a copy of your Abstract that you can copy and paste into a text box.

PLEASE NOTE: ODS will review your manuscript for adherence to the required corrections prior to being approved for publishing. If corrections still need to be made, ODS will reach out to you through ProQuest.
   
Regarding the optional copyright registration service offered by ProQuest/UMI
:  Please note that under copyright law, you automatically hold a  copyright on your work. This is why we have you include a copyright page  in your work.  Copyright registration provides certain important  practical and legal benefits in addition to those you already enjoy as  the creator of an original work. Columbia University provides extensive  information about copyright issues through the Copyright Advisory Office. Of particular interest is this page,  which explains your rights as an author of a dissertation (or any other  original work). Please note that the optional service offered by  ProQuest/UMI costs $55.00 and can be paid via credit card directly to  ProQuest through the upload system. You can also register your copyright  yourself with the U.S. Copyright Office.
