Jane earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from St. Olaf College, her Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University, and her PhD in Nursing from University of Connecticut.

Jane has been a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) since 1996. She started her diabetes professional career as the Director of Clinical Services and Education at The Barton Center for Diabetes Education in North Oxford, Massachusetts. In 1999, Jane developed the Diabetes Education Program at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where she served as Program Director for 12 years. Jane started teaching online in 2009. She taught Nursing Theory at the graduate level and Human Nutrition at the undergraduate level. She also taught Human Anatomy & Physiology in the undergraduate classroom setting. Jane became the Program Director for the Master of Science in Diabetes Education and Management Program at Teachers College in 2011, and she teaches four of the core diabetes courses.
