Jolie Heath is a teacher of the foundational skills involved in becoming a proficient reader and writer. Since 2008, she has worked in a private clinic to provide explicit instruction with science-based practices to children with the goal of closing a child’s academic achievement gap, and supporting comprehension and language development. She received a BFA from Hunter College, an Ed.M. from Harvard University, and is currently working on her dissertation in Educational Psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her doctoral dissertation research focuses on methods to improve how children learn to read and spell multisyllabic words. She is the recipient of the 2015 ILA Jeanne S. Chall Research Fellowship.
