Welcome to the Office of Financial Aid
Q. What kinds of scholarships are available at TC?
A.
There are over 300 endowed funds provided by the generosity of donors. The majority are specific to a particular program. Scholarships provide tuition funding for eligible part- and full-time students in some of TC's degree programs. Program faculty make the awards. Depending on the fund, new and/or continuing students are eligible.
International students are eligible for all sources of scholarship aid, except where restrictions exist, i.e. minority scholarship. (Minority scholarships are available only to eligible federally recognized
Q. How do I apply for a TC scholarship?
A. Program faculty nominate new students for scholarships based upon the admission and degree applications of the new students and on the Teachers College academic records for the continuing students. In addition to the FAFSA, all students must complete a TC Financial Aid & Scholarship Application to be considered for aid and scholarships. To receive priority consideration for scholarships, new students must complete their admissions application by the priority deadlines. For those scholarships requiring financial need, Financial Aid will review the students' FAFSA to determine whether the nominated students meet the level of financial need required by the donor. Endowed scholarships are provided through the generosity of donors' contributions. Many of these are in support of students in particular programs. Faculty committees select the award recipients based upon criteria designated by the donor.
Because some scholarships are based on need,
Students in the Curriculum and Teaching Department also need to file the Continuing Student Scholarship application with their department by February 1st in order to be considered for scholarships in the next academic year.
Q. I would like to receive my entire TC scholarship in one semester. Is that possible since I won't be attending next semester?
A. You may be able to receive the entire TC scholarship in one semester. You would need to receive approval in writing from your department and submit the approval to the Office of Financial Aid. You must specify the semester and the amount that pertains to your request.
