Graduate Assistantships

  • Graduate Assistantships are primarily available through the departments at Teachers College.
  • Graduate Assistantships are not available for full-time TC employees.
  • There are three different graduate assistantship titles:
Research/Teaching Graduate Assistant Position

A research/teaching graduate assistant (R/T GA) receives a benefit from the College in the form of stipend and tuition points for the performance of academically relevant services to Teachers College. The graduate assistantship must be related to the student’s academic program and must further the education of the recipient. The R/T GA is eligible to earn one tuition point for every $500 of stipend, up to a maximum of 3 points per semester and 6 points per academic year (consecutive Fall, Spring, and Summer semester). R/T GA’s may earn $500-$5000 per semester.

Research/teaching graduate assistantships are available to full-time and part-time masters and doctoral degree candidates who are registered for at least 6 points (or equivalent).

Graduate Administrative Assistant Position

Graduate Administrative Assistants (GAA) are similar to the College’s current part-time professional position. The position is primarily for students in positions outside of the academic departments who perform work not primarily related to their academic/professional pursuits. GAA’s are eligible to earn one tuition point for every $500 of stipend, up to a maximum of 3 points per semester and 6 points per academic year (consecutive Fall, Spring, and Summer semester). GAA’s may earn $500-$5000 per semester.

Graduate Administrative Assistantships are available to full-time and part-time masters and doctoral degree candidates who are registered for at least 6 points (or equivalent).

Doctoral Research Fellowship Graduate Assistant Position

Doctoral Research Fellowship GA Position has been created to allow students admitted to the College’s Ph.D and Ed.D programs.  It includes a stipend of $20-$25,000 and up to 24 credits of tuition per academic year. Students holding a Doctoral Research Fellowship may not work or combine the tuition credits/points with other scholarships and may not hold another position at TC.
