Teachers College Funds

Below are outside sources of funding. Students should obtain and submit applications directly to the appropriate agencies listed within.

There are some circumstances where this scholarship may not be valid:

  • If you defer your enrollment to a future semester
  • If you receive a scholarship from an external source.
  • If you do not enroll in the semester for which you have been admitted.
  • If you drop the course and you are chanrged any percentange for the course
  • Full time employees (spouses or dependents) of Teachers College, Barnard College or Columbia University who are eligible for tuition remission are not eligible to receive Teachers College scholarships, and are required to notify the Office of Financial Aid immediately.

**Scholarships pay according to Teachers College billing charges per point/credit**

Aid Types: Teachers College Funds

Teachers College General and Minority Student Scholarship Funds: Provide tuition funding for eligible part-and full-time students in any of Teachers College's degree programs. Program faculty make the awards. New and continuing students are eligible.

International Students Funds Provide scholarships for international students. Program faculty make the award decisions. New and continuing students are eligible.

Grant-in-Aid:
Grants-in-aid are awarded primarily to doctoral students during the last two semesters of graduate work, taking both merit and need into consideration. Students must demonstrate considerable loan indebtedness incurred while at Teachers College. International students are required to seek approval from the International Student Advisor. Faculty recommendations in support of Grant-in-Aid applications are required. A committee makes the award decisions. Applications are available online and in the Office of Financial Aid and must be filed by September 15th for Fall and February 1st for Spring.

Graduate Assistantships: Students who are employed as Graduate Assistants (payroll category 6181) will receive 1 point of tuition for every $500 of salary up to a maximum of 3 points per semester, 6 points per academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer). Points may be used during the semester earned, or one semester beyond the earning period.

Aid Types: Endowed Funds

There are over 300 endowed funds provided by the generosity of donors. The majority are specific to a particular program. Program faculty make the award decisions generally before the beginning of the academic year. Depending on the fund, new and/or continuing students are eligible.

The endowed scholarships listed below are available to students from many programs. Program faculty nominate students to a college-wide committee that makes the award decisions or recommendations to the donor. Students who are finalists will be contacted, may need to provide additional documentation, and may be interviewed by the donor.

Rose Fellows: These Fellowships award up to 18 points of tuition in addition to a research fellowship to students working as interns under the direction of TC faculty on a project(s) selected by the donor. Faculty choose the student interns. New and continuing students are eligible.

Jewish Foundation for the Education of Women: For a select number of full-time female pre-service science and math education students willing to teach for 2 years in NYC public schools. Full tuition scholarship. New students only.

Office of Policy and Research

 

The Office of Policy and Research is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 Policy-Relevant Research and General Research Fellowship Awards for Current Students.  Each fellowship is in the amount of $6,000 and may be used for any academically related living, tuition, research, or travel expenses. Please see the attached flier for additional information on the benefits and responsibilities associated with these fellowships, as well as detailed instructions on the application process.

 

LCU Foundation Housing Grant

The Ladies' Christian Union Foundation has established the LCU Foundation Housing Grant which will provide scholarship assistance for housing.  This scholarship, open to female students is unique because it is dedicated solely to assist with the living expenses in New York City as part of their financial planning.

 Eligibility
  • Must be a female
  • Must live in New York City, while attending Teachers College
  • Must have a minimun GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
  • Must be enrolled full-time for the academic year (at least 12 billable credits per semester)
  •  Must be enrolled in a master's degree program leading to teacher certification
  • Must earn less than $27,000 annually and receive no, or very limited assistance from parents or outside sources
Considerations will be  primarly given to New Incoming Students.
