How to Apply » Award Letter Processes

You've Received Your Award Letter, Now What?

This section of the website is for those students whom have already received their award letter.  Please reference your award letter in relation to the information below.  Generally the order that you want to start borrowing financial aid is as followed in the order listed from top to bottom:

1. Free Aid (Scholarships or Grants)
2. Stafford Loans (Subsidized and then Unsubsidized)
3. Graduate Plus Loan (Do Not Apply Until June 1st, 2009 for 0910)


Stafford Loans



New Loan Borrowers at TC

 

If you are a new loan borrower at TC you must follow these instructions:
 
 

1.      All Stafford loan borrowers must complete a Loan Authorization Form, at

http://www.tc.columbia.edu/i/a/document/9403_0910loanauth.pdf 

        Be sure to choose the same lender as you did on your E-MPN

2.       Complete your Stafford Entrance Interview at www.mappingyourfuture.org

Click on “GRADUATE STUDENTS”

Then Click on Stafford ENTRANCE

3.      Complete your Stafford- E-MPN (Electronic Master Promissory Note)

 

·          If you are borrowing with the FFEL Loan program complete E-MPN at www.hesc.com. 

(click on “Students, Families, and Counselors”

 OR

·          If you are borrowing with the Federal Direct Loan program complete your MPN at

        https://dlenote.ed.gov/empn/index.jsp

 

 

Continuing Borrowers

 

·          Continuing borrowers must complete and submit the Loan Authorization Form, at http://www.tc.columbia.edu/i/a/document/9403_0910loanauth.pdf 

 

NOTE:

If you are changing lenders, please complete a new e-MPN, following the instructions in step 2   above.

Graduate Plus Loan
 

 

FFEL Graduate PLUS Loan Process

 

1.       Please Visit this link to apply https://web1.hesc.org/hescpub/main?target=renderer_plusgb_empn&select=0 

Follow the steps to complete the pre-approval for the Graduate PLUS Loan. 

If you are approved you will be directed to complete the E-MPN (Electronic Master Promissory Note).   HESC will send our office confirmation of your approval, at that time we will process your Graduate Plus Loan.

 

2.      Complete a Graduate PLUS Loan Counseling interview at http://mappingyourfuture.org/oslc/counseling/index.cfm?act=Intro&OslcTypeID=24 (Beginning July 1, 2008 all students are required to complete an entrance interview for a graduate Plus loan).

 OR

Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Process
 

1.       Please complete the “Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Application” which can be printed out by clicking Direct PLUS Loan Application. All sections of this application need to be completed! Once completed, please fax or mail the form directly to the financial aid office for processing.

2.      All Direct PLUS loan borrowers must complete an electronic Master Promissory Note (e-MPN).
To complete your e-MPN, please click https://dlenote.ed.gov/empn/index.jsp.

3.      Complete a Graduate PLUS Loan Counseling interview at http://mappingyourfuture.org/oslc/counseling/index.cfm?act=Intro&OslcTypeID=24 (Beginning July 1, 2008 all students are required to complete an entrance interview for a graduate Plus loan).

 
 

Work-study 
 

·          If you have received the federal work-study grant as apart of you award letter you may apply for a work-study job.

·          Work-study is not paid directly toward tuition but it is a grant that indicates how much taxable income you can receive for the position you apply.

·          You may visit the HR website for job listings http://www.tc.columbia.edu/administration/hr/

·          You may also click “Work Study” on the tabs to the left for more info. 

 

 

Scholarships
 

If you have received a scholarship on your award letter you have or will receive a letter indicating the criteria’s for the scholarship and any necessary steps needed to ensure the scholarship.  Your scholarship is automatically put in an awarded status and it will pay to the student accounts office a few days prior to the start of classes.
