Teachers College Loan Code of Conduct

Teachers College financial aid office has decided to adopt the following College Loan Code of Conduct:

  1. Revenue Sharing Prohibition- Teachers College financial aid employees are prohibited from receiving anything of value from any lending institution in exchange for any advantage sought by the lending institution.
  2. Gift and Trip Prohibition-Teachers College financial aid employees are prohibited from taking anything of more than nominal value from any lending institution.  This includes a prohibition on trips for financial aid officers and other college officials paid for by lenders.
  3. Advisory Board Compensation Rules- Teachers College Financial Aid employees are prohibited from receiving anything of value for serving on the advisory board of any lending institution.
  4. Preferred Lender Guidelines-Teachers College preferred lender lists are based solely on the best interest of the students or parents who may use the list without regard to financial interests of the College.
  5. Preferred Lender Disclosure-On all preferred lender lists Teachers College has clearly and fully disclosed the criteria and process used to select preferred lenders. Students must also be told that they have the right ability to select the lender of their choice regardless of the preferred lender list.
  6. Loan Resale Disclosure-No lender on the Teachers College preferred lender list has an agreement to sell its loans to another lender without disclosing this fact.  In addition, no lender may bargain to be a preferred lender with respect to a certain type of loan by providing benefits to a College as to another type of loan.
  7. Call-Center Prohibition-Teachers College ensures that employees of lenders never identify themselves to students as employees of the colleges. No employee of a lender is working or providing staffing in the Teachers College financial aid office.

The sole reason that these lenders have been selected is because they provide excellent customer service, have the best products and features with no hidden fees, toll free customer service numbers, participates in full electronic processing of loans, provide a quick response to the needs of Teacher College students, have extensive knowledge of TC processes, and has a dedicated representative for the TC financial aid staff to resolve any issues quickly.

Please know that you have the option of choosing ANY lender you wish, and that TC will process applications for any lender you request.  Our recommended list is intended to be a conduit for helping you find the most competitive rates on the market combined with the best customer service.
We reserve the right to remove any lender from the list at any time. We also review our lender list every year to insure that we have the most competitive rates and the meet our standards outlined above. We do not receive any form of payment or compensation for inclusion on our preferred lender list. We explicitly state to our students and our lender partners that students are free to work with any lender they choose and that we will process any federal loan with any lender at the student's request. Our preferred list is intended to be a conduit for our students--helping them find the most competitive rates on the market combined with the best customer service.
