Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)

The DPD consists of a series of courses specified by The American Dietetic Association (ADA), along with a bachelor's degree. You may combine any of our nutrition master's degrees with the process of completing the DPD and becoming a registered dietitian. If you have completed an undergraduate degree in nutrition (thereby fulfilling the DPD requirement) and have had your coursework "verified" by an ADA director, you may apply directly to the Teachers College Dietetic Internship Program.

If you have completed a bachelor's degree in an area other than nutrition, you will probably need to complete additional coursework to satisfy the DPD requirement. Since Teachers College is a graduate institution, it cannot offer a full, approved DPD. However, a combination of several of our master's degree courses along with a number of additional undergraduate courses will enable you to meet the DPD requirement. Upon completion of the DPD, we will facilitate your "verification" of completion of the DPD, which will enable you to apply to the Dietetic Internship Program.

Here is the list of required courses as part of the DPD.

Dr. Lora Sporny is the Teachers College advisor for the DPD. To make the process of preparing to become a registered dietitian easier, please participate in an audio information session with Dr. Sporny on the 2nd or 4th Saturday of any month.
