Dietetic Internship Program

The Teachers College, Columbia University Dietetic Internship Program follows the Standards of Education of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and provides students with internship experiences that meet those standards of knowledge, skills, and competences for entry-level dietetic practitioners. Students who successfully complete the training program are eligible to write the ADA registration examination to become a registered dietitian.

The Dietetic Internship Program is offered on a full-time basis and requires eleven months to complete. The concentration area is nutrition education and all interns must complete 1200 practice hours. All applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

For students with a bachelor's degree that does not include the ADA's required courses, arrangements can be made for students to take these courses concurrently with their Teachers College master's degree at undergraduate nutrition programs in the New York metropolitan area. There are a number of colleges in the area that offer the required courses. See Didactic Program in Dietetics. Applicants to the Dietetic Internship must include a verification statement from a Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education (CADE) accredited DPD program.

All Applicants to the Dietetic Internship must participate in the ADA computer matching program. Applicants should visit the D&D Digital website, www.dnddigital.com for instructions and to complete an online application.

The Dietetic Internship at Teachers College is currently granted Accreditation by CADE, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995. Contact information: 800-877-1600, ext. 4764; website www.eatright.org.
