Program in Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The Program in Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Thank you for your interest in the Program in the Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Teachers College, Columbia University. We offer three degrees: the M.A., the Ed.M. and the Ph.D.
- The M.A. in Deaf Educationis a 32-36-credit program leading to a masters degree in Deaf Education
- The M.A. is a 40-credit program leading to New York State (NYS) initial certification as Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This program begins during the summer and can be completed full-time in one year.
- The Ed.M. is a 60 credit program leading to dual NYS initial certification as Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing as well as Early Childhood Teacher, Elementary Education, Teacher, Secondary Teacher in a particular subject area (English, Math, Science or Social Studies) or Reading Specialist. This program begins during the summer and can be completed in two years.
- The Ph.D. is a 84-credit program of advanced study, research and clinical training.
