Funding Information

  • Loan forgiveness through New York State Department of Education (NYCDOE) – The Loan Forgiveness Program offers New York State certified classroom teachers and school based pedagogic clinicians working in specified shortage areas, newly hired to the New York City Department of Education, the opportunity to have student loans repaid.  See the website for more complete information.
  • Loan Forgiveness through Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education -  The Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue in the teaching profession. Under this program, if you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in certain elementary and secondary schools and educational service agencies that serve low-income families, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to a combined total of $17,500.
  • The Teacher Opportunity Corps (TOC) program is a New York State Education Department grant funded program designed to increase the number of underrepresented and economically disadvantaged individuals in the teaching profession. Individuals in the following underrepresented groups will be given first priority: Asian; Black/African American; Hispanic/Latino, American Indian and Alaskan Native; Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander. Second priority will be given to individuals who are economically disadvantaged, and third priority will be given to individuals who are not historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged.
