Student Policies and Procedures

Vacating

Occupancy beyond an approved vacate date will result in additional charges:

Type of Unit Extension Fee
Single Student Housing (private bathroom) $70
Single Student Housing (no private bathroom) $50
Family Housing Designated apartment $90

Failure to submit a Vacate Notification Form (VNF) by the appropriate notification date, at minimum, will result in the forfeiture of residents' security deposit. In addition, the Office of Residential Services reserves the right to hold residents financially responsible through the termination date of the housing contract.

 

Residents who are moving out of their current room assignment, whether at the end of term move out or an approved transfer, must check out and complete the following:

1. If you are participating in Standard Check-Out, arrange a convenient time with your Community Assistant to have the room/apartment inspected.

2. All Teachers College furnishings, including the telephone, must be in the room/apartment as indicated on the RCR. Residence Hall Damage Cost Estimates.doc

4. For residents living in apartments, efficiencies and studios:

 

  • Apartment must be left clean, neat and orderly
  • Remove all personal belongings from the room at time of check-out
  • All floors must be swept clean
  • Refrigerator must be defrosted, cleaned and left on lowest setting
  • Furniture must be returned to its original position
  • All tape and adhesives must be removed
  • The stove, including the oven, must be cleaned
  • Cabinets and closets must be cleared and wiped clean
  • Kitchen sink must be left clean
  • Bathroom facilities must be scoured and left clean
  • All trash and garbage must be removed to the dumpster areas
  • Do not leave trash in hallways
  • Turn off all lights and lock all doors and windows

5. For persons living in suites and single rooms:

  • Room must be left clean, neat and orderly
  • Floor must be swept clean
  • Furniture must be returned to its original position
  • All tape and adhesives must be removed
  • Cabinets and closets must be cleared and wiped clean
  • Microfridge units must be defrosted, cleaned and unplugged
  • All trash and garbage must be removed to the dumpster areas
  • Do not leave trash in hallways
  • Turn off all lights and lock all doors and windows
  • Suite kitchens (responsibilities to be divided among suite mates):
    • empty and clean refrigerator
    • set refrigerator on lowest setting
    • clean stove, including oven
    • kitchen sink must be left clean
  • Single room common kitchens (responsibilities to be divided among residents):
    • empty and clean refrigerator
    • set refrigerator on lowest setting
    • clean stove, including oven
    • kitchen sink must be left clean

6. Forwarding addresses:

  • All residents must provide the Registrar with a forwarding address.
  • 517 West 121st and Whittier residents should provide the Residential Mailroom with a forwarding address. Mail will be forwarded for 1 month after their departure.
  • Bancroft, Grant, and Sarasota residents must provide the US Post Office with a forwarding address for mail to be forwarded.

There will be a $125.00 charge per lock for room/suite/apartment keys not returned at time of check-out. Additionally, there is a $20 per lock for mailbox keys not returned.

Security deposits, less any damage or improper check-out fees, will be refunded approximately four-
six weeks after the published acceptable vacate date if the Vacate Notification Form (VNF) was submitted prior to the appropriate deadline.
