Publications from
the Interrupting Oppression & Sustaining Justice Conference

In the Spring of 2004, the Interruptin Oppression and Sustaining Justice (IO&SJ) conference at Teachers College brought together 80 invited participants from a wide-variety of disciplines and professional orientations. The overall purpose of the Conference was to stimulate multidisciplinary thinking and research which could lead to the development of useful intellectual frameworks for those seeking to reduce systemic injustice (oppression) and destructive conflicts at the individual, family, community, national, and/or global levels. We brought together scholars from a wide variety of disciplines (e.g. economics, political science, sociology, psychology, education, the arts, the media), political and community activists who were working to produce social change, public intellectuals, philanthropists, and promising graduate students who were interested in contributing to scholarly and practical work in this area. We viewed the Conference as a working meeting where interesting new ideas could emerge from the discussions of a diverse and multidisciplinary group of practitioners and scholars.
