Conflict Resolution Training Evaluation

Negotiation training is a multi-million dollar industry that has become prominent in many fields. However, despite this growth, there has been little research to assess the effectiveness of such training. Between 1999 and 2000, we developed a systematic model for graphnegotiation training evaluation that offers a broad conceptualization of the hypothesized individual and systemic effects of training in collaborative negotiation. This model assesses pre-to-post training change at the individual level in conflict-related cognitions, attitudes, affect and behaviors; and at the systems level in conflict outcomes and climate. The instrument, the Negotiation Evaluation Survey (NES), is a time-delayed, multi-source feedback approach to assessment and professional development, which addresses some of the conceptual and methodological problems inherent in more questionnairecommon methods of training evaluation. The NES has become an integral component of the basic practicum in conflict resolution and special program cohort offerings ( Summer Principal Academy, West Point Leadership Program) offered through the ICCCR.
