Conflict Resolution Certificate students are required to register and participate in one internship course. The internship available to all students is community mediation (see details below). However, other opportunities may be available. Students should inquire about additional internship opportunities by contacting Ines Ariceta, ICCCR Practice Coordinator, at 212-678-4039 or ariceta@tc.edu.
Apart from the internship requirement, Conflict Resolution Certificate students must also complete the four required core courses (see Core Courses) as well as one elective course (see Elective Courses).
ORLJ 5012:
Organizational Internship - Community Mediation
(3 credits or noncredit)
Students participate in two weekend workshops & conduct supervised community mediation at the IMCR.
Institute for Mediation and Conflict Resolution (IMCR):
The Institute for Mediation and Conflict Resolution (IMCR) is a private not-for-profit organization based in the Bronx. The IMCR conducts state recognized mediator training programs and mediates community conflicts. The Center's approach is based on the issues of empowerment and recognition.
Student interns undergo a 35-hour orientation training session for two consecutive weekends followed by twelve sessions of co-mediation at the IMCR Dispute Resolution Center. Each session of co-mediation averages three hours wherein the intern is given feedback on his or her technique immediately after the scheduled mediation session. After the twelfth mediation session, student interns will request an evaluation by the Director of Mediation. Upon satisfactory evaluation, student interns have fulfilled their requirement for contact hours. Students are asked to obtain documentation from the IMCR, noting the completion of internship hours & satisfactory evaluation, and turn this in to the ICCCR so that it can be included in the student's file.
