<< English Education : Program Description

  The 34 point M.A. degree program in the Teaching of English can be completed by in-service teachers over three summers.  This program is guided by pedagogical, philosophical, and theoretical underpinnings that reflect current trends in rethinking the teaching of English language arts.  In particular, educators are invited to explore interconnections within the fields of English Education, Curriculum Theory, Aesthetic Education and Cultural Studies.  Students accepted to the program form a cohort group that remains together throughout each summer, taking classes offered only to INSTEP students.  Classes offered to INSTEP students are intensive courses that meet for a total of three consecutive weeks per summer.   The professional Seminar is offered on-line to INSTEP students during their first spring semester together.  Students have the option of completing additional credits during the fall and spring semesters by taking online classes.   A master's project is a final requirement of the program.  This M.A. program meets N.Y. State and national teacher preparation standards.
