The Program embraces a broad conception of art and of the settings and populations in which art forms reach their audiences. It privileges the education of the artist-teacher and promotes the role of the arts in supporting human growth and development. The degree may be completed in three summers with some off-campus work; however, courses may also be taken during the school year thus reducing the overall time commitment.
All applicants are required to submit a portfolio (slides, CD, video, or original work), examples of scholarly writing (papers, thesis, articles or other publications), and the Art and Art Education Application Supplement (please call 212 678 3360 to request the Supplement). Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in studio art, art education, art history, museum education, or present other evidence of competence.
