Visiting Scholars and Doctoral Students Policies
Teachers College (TC) welcomes visitors and others who do not hold academic appointments at the College to come to TC, for a specific period of time, to facilitate their research and to participate in the activities of the College. To accommodate the needs of these individuals and to recognize their contribution to the intellectual life of the College, TC confers Visiting Scholar status with limited benefits and privileges, according to the policies and procedures described by the College. Please review the Visiting Scholars Policy for detailed information on hosting international visitors.
Please keep in mind:
- The Visiting Scholar application is located on the How to Apply page. This application must be sent to the Office of International Affairs (OIA), attention Ms. Blessing Nuga (nuga@tc.columbia.edu). Please do NOT send the application and supplemental documents to the Office of International Services (OIS) as this may delay your application.
- Please review the Application Timeline. Applications usually take 1-2 weeks to process once all required documents are received.
- If you are approved as a Visiting Scholar and you need J-1 visa sponsorship, please complete the Visiting Scholar Form DS-2019 Application and submit it to the Office of International Services. Please do NOT submit DS-2019 applications to OIA, as this may delay your visa application.
- If you are not eligible for Visiting Scholar Sponsorship, but are currently a doctoral student in a regionally accredited institution within the United States, or its equivalent from a country other than the United States, you may apply to the Visiting Doctoral Student Program. For more information, please review the Visiting Doctoral Students Policy.
