About Us

The Department of International and Transcultural Studies hosts a diverse community of students and scholars dedicated to addressing contemporary challenges regarding education in its many settings and institutions in the United States and around the world.

Over its long history, distinguished faculty and alumni have changed academic thought and professional practice through creative and original inquiries in their respective fields. We welcome and encourage students who want to be part of this tradition.

Anthropology at Teachers College is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship and innovative practices in all areas of public concern, in education in and outside the classroom, in the United States and abroad, as well as all fields related to human development. For close to a century, our faculty have led the field and its transformations. They remain the largest set of scholars dedicated to these matters in the world.

For more than a century, Teachers College has been a leader in International and Comparative Education, establishing the oldest graduate international education program in the United States and possibly in the world. Faculty and alumni include many leaders in international organizations, government, as well as in academia, who have shaped education here and abroad in both fragile states and in advanced economies. Students have access to several disciplinary, professional, and geographic concentrations allowing them to develop individual commitments to scholarship and professional practice.
