New International Student Orientation

The Office of International Services invites you to attend New International Student Orientation. The orientation is for all new and incoming international students - and for anyone who feels 'international'! Come and meet returning students, OIS staff and interns, representatives from student associations and groups, and others. At orienatation you will also be able to learn more about:

  • OIS services
  • Shopping and Entertainment
  • Safety and Health
  • Computing and Information Technology
  • Navigating New York

 Meet the Fall 2017 Orienation Interns!

The Office of International Services at Teachers College is excited to welcome you to TC!  We hope that you have a great journey during your time here and our office is here to assist you along the way!  The new international student orientation will take place from Tuesday August 29, 2017 to Thursday August 31, 2017.  The Teachers College Welcome Day 2017 event will take place on Tuesday September 5, 2017!

All international students new to TC must check-in with OIS on Tuesday August 29, 2017 or Wednesday August 30, 2017. Please follow the detailed immigration check-in procedure information below before coming to your appointment.  Please select a check-in appointment time below:

1.       Tues 8/29/17 | 10:00 AM-12:00 PM |RSVP

2.       Tues 8/29/17 | 1:00 PM-3:00 PM |RSVP

3.       Tues 8/29/17 | 3:00 PM-5:00 PM |RSVP

4.       Wed 8/30/17 | 9:00 AM-11:00 AM |RSVP

IMMIGRATION CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

New international students at Teachers College are required to check-in with the Office of International Services upon arrival. Check-in is mandatory prior to the first day of classes.

Please bring the following documents with you to your Check-in appointment.

 

What to bring with you on your check-in day:

 

1). The New International Student Information Form

Please download and complete this form under the 'Forms' section of our website prior to your check-in appointment.

Please bring items two through five for you and your family.

 

2). Valid Passport(s)

For you and your family, if applicable.

 

3). F-1 or J-1 Visa

Exception: Canadian citizens are not required to have entry visas.

 

4). Form I-20 or DS-2019

Please make sure to sign your I-20/DS-2019 form at the bottom of hte page.

 

5). I-94 Record *You will need your passport to retrieve your I-94 record

 

How to retrieve your electronic I-94 record online:

a. Log on to the Department of Homeland Security website:  https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home

b. Click on “Get Most Recent I-94”

c. Read through the “Security Notification” and click “Consent & Continue”

d. Enter your information to retrieve your most recent I-94 record

 

Tips on retrieving your most recent I-94 record

*Enter your name as it appears in your passport

*Be sure to check and enter your birthday month and birthday date correctly

*Double check that the information you entered matches the information in your passport

*If you have multiple names appear in your passport, you might consider entering different combinations as the port of entry officer may have entered only one or all of the names appearing on your passport

*If you continue to encounter issues retrieving your I-94 record, please speak to one of the international advisors

If you are still having trouble with locating your I-94 record online, or if there are errors on your records, please see an OIS advisor during your appointment.

F-1 Visa Orientation

F-1 students who are new to Teachers College (including F-1 students transferring to Teachers College from other institutions) are required to attend an F-1 Visa Orientation workshop. Attendance at this workshop is mandatory. At the visa orientation OIS staff will explain essential F-1 immigration rules and requirements, including those covering:

  •     Full-time Study
  •     Employment
  •     Travel and Re-entry
  •     Departure and Termination of Status

J-1 Visa Orientation

J-1 students who are new to Teachers College (including J-1 students transferring to Teachers College from other exchange visitor programs) are required to attend a J-1 Visa Orientation workshop. Attendance at this workshop is mandatory. At the visa orientation OIS staff will explain essential J-1 immigration rules and requirements, including those covering:

  •     Full-time Study
  •     Employment and Taxes
  •     Travel and Re-entry
  •     Departure and Termination of Status
