The iDesign Brown Bag Series with Vidcode

The CMLTD program's iDesign Lab kicked off its first Spring 2016 Brown Bag series with Melissa Halfon, co-founder of Vidcode. Created by a team of female engineers, Vidcode caters to teen girls' lifestyles and interests with an advanced curriculum that allows each girl to excel at her own speed. At the brown bag, Melissa talked about Vidcode's research and experiences in helping teen girls find a passion for coding and how creative coding could be incorporated to students hobbies (e.g., music, art, math). By accessing Vidcode's interface and curriculum project ideas for educators, attendees were able to engage with the intersection of instructional design, education, and youth participation. Previous brown bag speakers have included William Crow from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the museum’s use of digital platforms to extend their learning space to online, and Simon Skov Fougt, on situation-based teaching and meaningful integration of ICTs.
