Dr. Felicia Moore Mensah is Program Coordinator and Professor of Science Education. As a qualitative researcher, Dr. Mensah has published extensively in the area of science teacher education. Her work is found in peer-reviewed journals, edited book chapters, and professional development materials. Her research interests are equity, diversity and social justice education, multicultural education, and gender and identity. Dr. Mensah's work focuses on improving science experiences for PreK-16 teachers and students in urban classrooms. She has received a number of awards, honors, and acknowledgements including the Early Career Award, Divison K, from the American Educational Research Association (2012); the Race, Culture, and Diversity Research Grant from Teachers College; and four Provost Investment Grants to support her research. Dr. Mensah is currently serving as a lead editor of the Cultural Studies of Science Education journal, and will be an incoming associate editor of the Journal of Research in Science Teaching (2015-2020), the premier journal of National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST).
Dr. Erica Walker is Professor of Mathematics and Education. A former high school mathematics teacher from Atlanta, Georgia, she earned her doctorate in education from Harvard University. Her research focuses on social and cultural factors, as well as educational policies and practices that facilitate mathematics engagement, learning, and performance, especially for underserved students. She collaborates with teachers, schools, districts, and organizations to promote mathematics excellence and equity for young people. Her work has been published in journals such as the American Educational Research Journal, Educational Leadership, and The Urban Review. Dr. Walker is also the author of two books: Building Mathematics Learning Communities: Improving Outcomes in Urban High Schools (published by Teachers College Press in 2012) and Beyond Banneker: Black Mathematicians and the Paths to Excellence (published by SUNY Press in 2014).
